Heads in the Sand
In my experience throughout the past few days, there seems to be at least one factor that is distinctive to one side or another regarding Elon Musk's current takeover of the Federal Treasury's System. There are those that truly believe that it's fine because Democracy is at no way at risk, all they're doing or will be able to do is give a report of what they found, and it is what POTUS said he will do and it will all be better in the end because the government will save a lot of money, etc. (and my "etc." is not meant to downplay the opinion, but to acknowledge that there a lot more thoughts and feelings that go along with those). There are also those who are very concerned because, while they would want the best case scenario, they also feel that it is well within the realm of possibility that there is more going on without the best of intentions for all Americans, and/or at the very least these are actions that threaten and undermine the very system we have in place that has given us the freedom and democracy we have. I am of the later. I would love to be able to see these things in such a way that does not cause me great concern for our nation and Democracy, and I keep looking and listening for that evidence; but the facts of the situation, the events of history, and series of other comments that have been said by (not about, but by) this administration and those close to them just don't allow me to get there neither intellectually nor emotionally. To me, to feel fine about this and to not hold space for the possibility (not hope not desire) that this is a true (not political or rhetorical or spun) threat to our nation and Democracy would require me to ignore and forget all of that - the facts, history, and what has been said by the people that are doing it. I'd be interested to hear from those that acknowledge those facts of the situation, know the history of how authoritarian and/or fascist regimes have taken power in history, and acknowledge what the actors in this situation have said with their own mouths (in context without spin), who are also fine (not seriously concerned about this). I'd honestly love to hear your perspective and even adopt the parts of it that I can. To date the only explanations that I have heard from those that either support this or who are willing to look away completely ignore or refuse to acknowledge these three things. I wish it were not the case, but it has been my experience so far.
